East Tennessee's finest functional steel sculptor.
Masterartist & Sculptor
The artist-sculptor Joseph M. Pugh, who designs the beautiful, functional steel sculptures seen on this website, was born in West Tennessee just outside of Jackson. Joseph is a naturally talented or God gifted artist who has had an interest in art since he was five years old. Joseph's talents in art include an array of mediums ranging from standard size paintings to wall size murals using all mixed mediums together, and/or pen and ink, toGo to horse page watercolors, acrylics, wood burning, wood carving, glass etching, stained glass, detailed metal art, steel carving with an air arc, architectural design, scale modelling, horticulture and landscaping, landscape designing. Additional skills are management skills, leadman, metal fabrication, industrial equipment operations, steel cutting, various flat plate roll forming machines, angle rolls, press breaks 100 ton & 300 tons, straight bellow forming, various shears, various drill presses, lathe, mig and tig welding, shipping and receiving, assembling, sandblasting, fork lifts, grinding, bandsaws, chop saw, strippit, and circle shears.

He entered his first art show at the age of 15, and also at that time he started custom painting using an airbrush and custom paints and metalflakes on motorcycles, painting fantasy art on Harley and Triumph choppers in the late 1960's. By the age of 17 he started doing more in the design work in sculpturing the look of motorcycles by designing and building his own front ends, gas tanks, sissy bars and modifying frames by goose necking the front on the frame for more style in the appearance, like now being shown on television programs like American Choppers and other custom motorcycle builders.

Made in America

Joseph continued his experience working with metals when he was employed by a company for 22 years that built expansion joints; in fact, it is the world's leader in this field. They manufactured units to be applied in oil refineries and utility plants; some of these devices performed as anti-pollution devices to help clean up our earth's atmosphere for a cleaner, healthier planet. He spent 22 years there, welding, bending, rolling, and cutting various types of steel, some years cutting up to approximately one millon dollars worth of these metals, rolling steel up to 4" thick and cutting steel up to 10" thick, so he is fully qualified in knowing the differences in the various types of metals.

Since 1987 Joseph has been designing and building swings, rockers and brackets mainly with the theme of fantasy and wildlife designs, first with the fairy porch swing and the indoor nursery, after designing and building his own home.

In the month of May 2001, Joseph received an Award from the Knoxville Museum of Art,
where his deer rocking chair is now archived.
